Late night approval
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Sept 13, CMC – The Trinidad and Tobago parliament on Wednesday night amended the controversial Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Act with the coalition People’s Partnership government insisting that it was not meant to support efforts by two financiers of one of the ruling parties to escape multiple criminal fraud charges.
Attorney General Anand Ramlogan told legislators that the amendments repealing section 34 of the act were intended to correct a “clear oversight by the entire Parliament” in failing “to appreciate the unintended consequence and implications of the one provision”.
“So the Parliament should man up, take responsibility for the oversight and say there’s a problem and we humbly apologise and say we should correct it...It’s counterproductive to ascribe blame,” he said.
