On Tropical Storm Watch
MIAMI, Aug 2, CMC – A tropical storm watch has gone into effect for several Caribbean countries as a tropical depression, which “has not yet become better organised” moved faster towards the west, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Wednesday.
It said the depression, which was located 12.8 north, 52.6 west or 565 miles east of the Windward Islands, is moving towards the west near 21 miles per hour (mph).
“A westward or west-northwestward motion at about the same forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the center of the depression should be near the Windward Islands on Friday,” teh NHC said in its 5.am (local time) bulletin.
It said that satellite pictures indicate that the depression has not become any better organised and maximum sustained winds remain near 35 mph with high gusts/
“No significant change in intensity is expected today, but some strengthening is possible,” the NHC said, noting that a tropical storm watch remains in effect for Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, St. Lucia, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
NHC said that interests elsewhere in the Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of the system.
