Cholera in Cuba: 15 reportedly killed, hundreds ill

HAVANA, Cuba, July 8, CMC – At least 15 people reportedly are dead and hundreds more sickened in the first cholera outbreak in Cuba in a century, according to independent media reports.

 

But Cuba’s Public Health Ministry said it had “controlled” an outbreak of cholera, claiming that it had killed three people and affected 50 others in Granma province.

Havana independent journalist Calixto R. Martinez told reporters the outbreak had killed at least 15 people and affected hundreds more. He said he had obtained information from residents and health workers in the region.
