Rowley's 'concerned' about Warner promotion
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Jun 22, CMC – As Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar sought to reenergise her two-year-old coalition government with a reshuffle of her 40-member cabinet on Friday night, the alternative prime minister has objected to a high-profile promotion, the new national security minister.
Opposition Leader Keith Rowley blasted Persad-Bissessar’s decision to appoint controversial former football executive Austin “Jack” Warner – her minister for works and infrastructure - to the “sensitive post” of overseeing national security, saying it “borders on irresponsibility”.
Warner will now have ministerial oversight of the army, police, prisons and immigration service.
In the shift, she dropped retired army Brigadier John Sandy from the administration.
